How to stop annoying Andorid apps from notifying you

There are notifications your phone gives you that you care about (e.g. phone calls, text messages, some e-mails) and some that you don't (e.g. "Your move in Angry Word Saga Town" ... "News alert! Some celebrity did something dumb again!")

If you only want to block certain types of notifications from a particular app, you can often fine tune those in the settings inside the app. However, if you just want to stop an annoying app from ever notifying you again, here's how to do it in 15 seconds: a

  1. Swipe down from the top of your phone to show your notifications

  2. Hold your finger down (i.e. long press) on the annoying notification until you get a menu option (similar to how you'd get a right-click menu on a computer) \ Tap 'App Info' b

  3. Tap the check-box for 'Show Notifications' \ Tap 'OK' to turn off notifications
